Ah, the age-old question desperately searched by numerous women: ‘Can I have sex on my period?’ Well the simple answer is “yes, of course you can have sex on your period.” Even better, there are actually several benefits to having sex whilst on your period.
When your period arrives, it’s often met with resignation to what lays ahead: several days’ worth of high running emotions, pain, and the general upkeep. It can also bring with it – intended or not – a so-called pause to bedroom activities.
Buy why? Period sex can be quite amazing – plus the fact that increased horniness is super common when you’re on your period! So what’s the big deal?

After receiving her BA from UCLA and her Master’s Degree along with two teaching credentials, Susan Carlson spent 20 years teaching special education and regular education students from kindergarten to sixth grade. In 2003, her mother was diagnosed with a terminal disease and was given two years to live. Susan discovered two amazing instruments that would prolong her mother’s life, and retired from teaching to treat her mother. She also started The Rexelle Group to help others with these instruments. While giving treatments, her clients noticed that their wrinkles were disappearing and encouraged Susan to get her esthetician’s license. She got her license in July 2007, and was soon in business, helping to make her clients look younger and feel healthier.
Dr. Susan Sklar has been a physician in the Long Beach area for the past thirty-five years. Dr. Sklar finished her training as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist, specializing in women’s health, at the Beth Israel Hospital, a Harvard teaching affiliate in Boston, Massachusetts in 1981 and then moved to Southern California. She delivered babies and cared for the gynecologic needs of her patients until 1989, when she limited her practice of medicine to gynecology and began a long career specializing in the care of mid-life women.
After many years of caring for mid-life women in the important area of hormones, she saw a need for services in the important area of female sexuality. She developed a specialty practice in the treatment of female sexual function problems and did clinical research in this important area. She also served as a reviewer for the Journal of Sexual Medicine. Caring for women and their sexual problems propelled her professional development further into the complex field of hormones, both for women and the men in their lives.
The culmination of these years of experience occurred when she gained the perspective of the field of Anti-Aging Medicine. This relatively new field of medicine recognizes that hormonal decline and imbalance causes humans to age in ways that are not necessary or inevitable. Replacement and balancing of these natural substances result in improved vitality and a longer healthy span of life with less chronic illness. She has spoken nationally on the topic of Burning Mouth Syndrome, a chronic pain condition that affects mainly women. Since 2017, she has been speaking on the topics of Alzheimer’s disease, memory impairment and cognitive decline.
She enjoys spending time with her grown children and her husband of 40 years. She enjoys the theater, she supports the arts, and she likes to exercise, especially outdoors, in the beautiful Southern California climate.
I was one of the first NIMH funded early career investigators to be funded for 17 years to develop a protocol to examine the socio cultural context of sexual decision making among African American men and women which set the template for my career. Over the past 35 years, my work has identified gender and cultural beliefs that contradict HIV prevention messages. They are associated with heightened sexual and drug related risk taking. I have developed a conceptual framework to use in HIV interventions with African Americans and tested culturally congruent interventions to increase the proportion of condom use and to reduce psychological distress among HIV positive men and women with histories of sexual abuse, trauma, and substance abuse histories. I was the initiator of a multi- disciplinary team that developed and tested the first culturally congruent intervention for HIV sero- discordant African American couples in four cities with NIMH in a U10 grant mechanism for 8 years.
This was the first and largest intervention developed and tested for self-identified heterosexual male and female couples, which represents the most common mode of HIV transmission in the world. The organization and management of a national study has enhanced my experience in working with large datasets with geographical distinctions important to assess as mediators and moderators of HIV related outcomes, histories of drug and alcohol abuse included. Further, the mentoring of new investigators in culturally congruent HIV and substance abuse research has also been an important asset to past and current studies. I was also principal investigator of our team that was awarded the ARRA funded HIV Translational Training Grants and a NIDA funded training program with over 30 Scholars who conduct pilot studies and apply for R series grants. For 12 years, we have trained 15 South African scholars to conduct research and pre-doctoral students for 4 years. Nine of those first authored articles were published in May, 2017 in Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Policy and Practice, an APA journal, by Phodiso graduates. Their research datasets are now used to teach over 200 undergraduate and 11 pre doctoral scholars ( thus far) from across the country to conduct research on the effects of Trauma, and Mental Health on risks for HIV/AIDS in the NIMH funded Tirisano (working together) Project. Domestically, I have directed the current Collaborative Center for Trauma and Mental Health Disparities, chaired and organized weekly meetings and hosted receptions for distinguished speakers and monthly research methods meetings and have mentored new and established investigators. My research has generated over 250 publications, 6 books and 10 Congressional documents that can influence the implementation, funding and policies related to evidence based interventions that address the needs of communities that serve HIV infected and at risk populations.

Beth is owner and director of The Living Foods Institute at Tula Health. Early in life Beth learned the value of good health and natural healing from the balance of her medical Dr father and yoga teacher mother. Beth started her professional career as a Health and English teacher at a school for children with special needs, later serving as principal of the school. In the early 2000s, she left the school to open a yoga and natural healing facility, which she owned and operated until her father was diagnosed with a terminal brain disease, seven years later. Her concern for her father led her to return to graduate school and delve more deeply into her research about neuroplasticity, brain healing and the gut-brain connection. Her master’s thesis focused on the specific impact of yoga on neurological functioning. Beth feels strongly that one of the reasons for the many success stories over the past 20 years at the Living Foods Institute relates to the unique approach to gut health, microbiome reseeding and the concurrent nurturing of the mind and the gut during the programs. She looks forward to the continued growth of The Living Foods Institute at Tula Health, eventual opening of new locations, and the opportunity to bring balanced natural healing to a broader market.

Become aware of your breath, energy and movement and you’ll know how to pump it up, cool it down and even it out and you’ll feel inner power and harmony like never before. Alyse Hart was once a hard charging executive in NY, LA and Silicon Valley; hustle and overextension was the norm and replenishment and flow was infrequent. Stress and cortisol created “heat” and inflammation and a tough perimenopause/menopause decade followed. Today she understands hormonal hijacks and energy management for self-regulate and harmony and it’s her mission to share Qi Gong with you. Your “second spring,” means your best years are not behind you and real vital energy can be yours. It’s simple to learn—quickly and easily.
She tried many modalities of body awareness and mindfulness movement techniques and still uses several. However, her “go to” is Qi Gong; and it found her. It focuses on the skillful use of life force energy. In India Qi is called Prana, Rausch in Hebrew and Mojo in America. It's affected by your thoughts, foods, the elements around you and movement. As your system changes you can cool your system and end redundant thoughts and pay attention to sensations indicating imbalances.
Alyse is a forerunner and participated in a number of firsts. First, she was invited to study and teach Qi Gong for WW’s (formerly Weight Watchers) body mind and spirit pilot program and now teaches at the newly formed Women in Technology Wellbeing Center. Her ability to share strength and softness, vulnerability, and humor with down to earth simple routines to optimize your body, mind and spirit in 5-10 minutes makes it do able. You’ll experience a shift and feel greater agency in your body.
Her company,Freebirdmojo.com, focuses on self-mastery and natural ways to ground, balance, and increase vital energy. Alyse holds a certificate from Grief Recovery Institute and is a certified Holden Qi Gong instructor. Inner power and insights await as you work with her privately or in group classes coming in October.

I was raised and educated in Philadelphia, PA where I fell in love with fashion early on. I studied at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, earning a BS in Fashion Design before moving to NYC to become a clothing designer/director for over 10 years. I eventually took a hiatus from the fast-paced fashion world to have my two beautiful boys. But while my family brought love, laughter, exhaustion and a new sense of purpose, I still missed fashion and working with people face-to-face. Unfortunately, the relentless pace of clothing design seemed unrealistic for a mother of two. So I made a life-changing decision to take my love of fashion in a different direction. I attended the Image Consulting program at the Fashion Institute of Technology and jump-started a career as a Personal Stylist. That was 12 years ago and I’ve never looked back! Since then I have become an award-winning stylist working bi-coastaly between LA and NYC. My clientele includes those in music, tv, and film; doctors, executives, entrepreneurs, as well as both stay-at-home moms, and those looking to get back into the workforce. As a freelance wardrobe stylist, I’ve brought my sense of style to TV shows, fashion influencers, and red carpet events including the Oscars, Emmys, and Golden Globes. Through the success I’ve shared with clients and my involvement in the community, I was awarded a CBS Best of LA Personal Stylist honor, a distinction I am very proud of.
I offer bi-coastal styling to women and men, helping them navigate and excel at dressing for their individual lifestyle and needs. Through my unique styling services, extensive fashion background and warm personality I bring confidence and happiness to my clients. With their wardrobe and closet more in control, they no longer are in a state of stress and paralysis over their outward appearance and can begin to feel a sense of calmness and confidence. My work empowers clients to move beyond body image hurdles which in the past had inhibited them from defining themselves in terms of style and acceptance. Together, we close the gap between who my clients are… and who they want to be.
It all began at 45 for me. The hot flashes, belly fat, fatigue, weight gain, mood swings, osteoporosis and, my personal favorite, leaking when I sneezed or laughed too hard. I was told that these were just normal symptoms of getting older.
Then, accidentally I discovered Pilates & traded those symptoms for a strong core & pelvic floor, flexible joints, improved bone mass, a lean body, increased energy & PURE JOY. Period.
Now, I'm in my 6th decade, in the best shape of my life and I feel and look years younger thanks to Pilates.
Pilates not only completely transformed my body, health & level of fitness, it deeply inspired me to change my career and become a Certified Pilates Instructor. Over the past 10+ years, I’ve taken countless numbers of women over 40 on that same Pilates journey to transform themselves and reach and maintain their fitness goals.
I have dedicated my practice to teaching women over 40 who want to achieve and maintain the best physical shape of their lives with an enjoyable workout that’s intense but not exhausting.
Please join me as I share my most POWERFUL Beginner Pilates movements in an Introductory 15-minute session. I will guide you through slow, controlled movements that build strength, flexibility, and mobility that will refresh and invigorate you.
No equipment needed. Just a space on the floor large enough to move your arms and legs around and a yoga-type mat or towel.
